Two anniversaries in one city festival
Back to the City International Festival marks its twentieth anniversary today, 10 October, at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Johannesburg. The official release connects the event to Johannesburg's 140th anniversary, making the music celebration a city-identity project as well.
The US guests are Ab-Soul, Slum Village and Blu & Exile. The organiser highlights South African artists Cassper Nyovest, Emtee, Blxckie, Stogie T, Reason, Tuks, Touchline and Trompies. Beyond music, the festival operates dance, graffiti, skate, gaming and vendor areas.
The partner list is news in itself
The release names eight supporters: City of Joburg, Hennessy, SABC 1, Red Bull, Stylin’ Dredz, Butan, Gauteng Tourism Authority and Gauteng Provincial Government. Municipal, tourism, media, beverage and streetwear interests all align with a format that combines urban culture, commerce and heritage on one platform.
What is at stake for local participants?
Food and clothing vendors, young artists, dancers and musicians gain both audiences and business contact. Partner value goes beyond logos because separate activation, sport, gaming and culture zones can create measurable engagement.
Tickets are sold through Webtickets and Pick n Pay according to the organiser. FestivalTV found no documented licence for a current event photograph and therefore uses no unauthorised image.
Summary
