The University of Szeged’s 30th Autumn Cultural Festival began on 1 October. The anniversary season runs for two months with about 350 events at roughly 80 venues, linking university and city cultural spaces into one extended festival.

Projection mapping and music on opening day

The opening centred on the university’s building at Dugonics Square. Painter Ferenc Pataki’s exhibition Constellations opened inside, while concerts and folk-dance performances took place outdoors. An evening projection-mapping show featured songs from the musical The Attic performed by artists of the Szeged National Theatre.

The Verse at Noon series also continues: on weekdays after the noon bells, university and city residents recite favourite poems outside the Rector’s Building.

A jubilee built from three decades of programming

The 30th edition spans popular and classical music, theatre, film, literature, exhibitions and public conversations. Announced guests include Pál Mácsai with Tell It, Pista!, Imre Csuja’s solo evening and Miklós H. Vecsei with Lóci Csorba in The Little Prince. Dániel Gryllus and Tamás Fabiny bring a Sándor Weöres programme, while Balázs Fülei performs a piano recital.

The 25-year-old a cappella group Fool Moon receives its own festival block. Alumni Fest joins in November with a three-day programme linked to SZTE Alma Mater’s 20th anniversary, including talks, workshops and community events.

What it means for the festival market

A two-month run and 80 venues offer more entry points for local services, hospitality and cultural partners than a single weekend event. Particularly strong opportunities include connected city routes, mobile programme discovery, the alumni community and the university audience.
